If you are a Filipino living or working abroad, you may need a clearance certificate for work, immigration, or legal purposes. Depending on your situation, you can apply for either a Police Clearance or an NBI Clearance from abroad. Here's how:

1. How to Get a Police Clearance While Abroad

Police clearance certificates issued abroad are usually required by foreign employers or immigration offices. Here's how to get it:

  • Visit the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate in your current country.

  • Request for a Police Clearance Certificate.

  • Bring valid identification (e.g., passport, resident ID).

  • Submit required documents (forms may vary by country).

  • Wait for processing and issuance.

Note: This is a clearance from the police in your current country, not from the Philippines. You will get it from the Philippine embassy or consulate where your application is processed.

2. How to Get NBI Clearance via a Representative in the Philippines

If you need an NBI Clearance from the Philippines, you can authorize someone (a representative) to apply on your behalf.

Steps:

  • Fill out NBI Form No. 5 and have your rolled fingerprints taken at the local police station or at the nearest Philippine embassy or consulate.

  • Prepare 2×2 photos, a valid passport photocopy, and any required IDs.

  • Write a Special Power of Attorney (SPA) authorizing your representative.

  • Send all documents to your representative in the Philippines via courier.

  • Your representative applies at the NBI office and claims the clearance.

  • The clearance is mailed back to you.

3. How to Get NBI Clearance Through the Philippine Embassy/Consulate

If you prefer direct processing through a Philippine embassy or consulate:

Steps:

  • Visit or contact the Philippine Embassy or Consulate in your country.

  • Submit a passport photocopy and photos.

  • The consulate will either:

    • Help forward your documents to NBI Manila, or

    • Guide you to send them via courier to the Mailed Clearance Section of the NBI.

  • Wait for the processing and delivery of your clearance.
